Next stop, Honolulu

Monday, April 25, 2011

Today's the day. Our bikes are all boxed up and we're excitedly (and nervously) awaiting our 9 hour flight to Honolulu (Hawaii) at the Sydney International Airport, sitting between a sushi restaurant and a currency exchange. Fortunately one of the nine "free" internet connections our iMac has detected actually works.

In case you're wondering what that red bag is hanging over Jaime's shoulder, it's one of our rear panniers, which will attach to our bikes on our ride. Jaime chose red, I chose graphite (which is basically grey). We aren't taking any suitcases or backpacks, so we've stuffed everything into the bike boxes or the two panniers that we'll carry on. According to the Jetstar scales, our bike boxes weighed 29 and 27 kilograms. It is unknown what our carry-on bags weigh.

Tomorrow we will visit our friends Felicia and Jane in Hawaii for the day, going for a hike, swim and then dining in Honolulu, before flying to Vancouver that night. Arriving the next morning, we'll catch a ferry to the Sunshine Coast (a misnomer, for an Aussie anyway), and spend the day with Jaime's family, picking up all the gear we ordered at great prices from the States.

Right now, Jaime is off duty free shopping for some last-minute practical items. She has done unexpectedly well at finding them so far. I'm glancing over my right shoulder towards the sushi.

We'll update soon!
