Introducing: The Vivente World Randonneur

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

A quick update on our status:

We've ordered our chariots for the upcoming ride!

We decided on the Vivente World Randonneur.

The World Randonneur is an Australian brand, and the bikes come properly spec'd up for loaded touring. We've heard tell the owner of the company, Noel McFarlane, actually tours on this bike. As a result, he's put a heck of a lot of attention into the details. Especially details that typically go wrong on lengthly tours. This is a big plus for us!

... and it's pretty.

I bought one a few years ago and couldn't believe the difference between my old 10 speed which I thought i'd set up to suit me. I looked about for ages and wanted bits of each model I saw then finally found the world randonneur which had all the specs i'd been looking for including drop head handle bars, a good range of gears, good lights, racks. I just had to change the pedals for bare feet! I feel like I'm nestling into a comfee arm chair every time I go for a ride. Tim

I have had mine for a few years too, it is a beautiful bike and I ride it every day. I own three other bikes; they are great too but I just seem to grab the Randoneur for my daily 40 ks. If I could only have one bike for the rest of my life then this is the one.

I have just ridden mine from south of Adelaide to Cairns a total of over 5,000 kms and still love riding it. Fully loaded it went 60kgs so I destroyed a rear wheel and wore out a bottom bracket bearing but could always cycle through to the next town if I couldn't do the repairs immediately. My daily mileage varied between 80 to over 140 ks with an average of 105, I did this for 10 weeks very comfortably. Great bike!
